The original owner who bought this Action Comics #1 off the stands kept it for 42 years with excellent storage, and very little handling. It was then sold through auction in 1980. I was the highest bidder on the comic, and had a tear on the back cover professionally sealed. Preservation in those days was seen by most as a good thing. Today, I would have just left the tear alone. Luckily this is just back cover bottom edge stuff.
The comic is just breathtaking to look at. It has a perfect spine, perfect edges, strikingly beautiful cover, and white pages. This is easily one of the highest grade copies of this historic comic that remains in existence.
I’m really glad I won the comic on auction back in 1980, and I’m extremely happy that I still own this amazing copy of Action Comics #1 today.

It was a very fresh copy that Darrel wanted a small stain removed from the front cover, a small tear closed at the base of the spine, and a tear at the base of the back cover. This was way back around 1991 or 92, so it was a long while ago. In hind sight, it is obvious that it should have been left alone but again, it was a different world for comics back then and we all thought it would be wise to do. He did not want to catch the back cover tear or small spine split on a mylar edge, which was very common in those days, and so he decided to do the work. No one thought much about minor work in those days.
It was the freshest copy I had ever personally seen.

We were very happy to get a chance to grade this amazing book. It is incredible to see a book this rare in this kind of condition. We are grading more & more Golden Age books all the time. We are grading a run of Detective Comics right now from #27 up through at least #50 and have hundreds of more incredible books coming in.
Congratulations to Darrel on this amazing book!
